Whether you are looking for an ethical alternative for your financial transactions or you don’t want to give your money to ‘big four’ banks, as of this week, another option is available on the market.
Europe’s leading sustainable bank has decided to launch its first-ever British personal current account. Triodos allows citizens to register their interest, whereas in June 2017, it plans on sending invites to registered users to apply for an account.
The financial institution only lends money to projects and organizations that are “making a positive difference to society”, i.e. socially, culturally or environmentally conscious organizations.
Moreover, Triodos publishes details of every transaction on its website, and its borrowers have included chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage HQ, and Worthy Farm, home to the Glastonbury festival.
“We want people to really think about what their bank is doing with their money. Money doesn’t have to be invested in the arms trade, fossil fuels and tobacco – it can be used to do good things that help build the society we want to live in,” the bank states.
Triodos is entering a hugely competitive market. M&S Bank and Halifax recently introduced no-fee current accounts.
