The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC)’s annual fintech conference SCxSC2020 is going virtual this year with a focus among others on the industry’s adjustment to the “new norm” and initiatives that are helping to shape its entrepreneurship.
This year, the seventh instalment of the SCxSC on Oct 5-7, 2020 will also cover discussions on investment behaviour in turbulent times, crypto conundrum in Islamic finance and the role of fintech in responsible fundraising and investing.
In line with the SC’s theme of promoting synergistic collaborations, those interested to venture into fintech-related businesses in Malaysia will benefit from the “Meet the Regulators” session, scheduled on day three of the event, said SC in its invitation for the event.
It goes without saying that 2020 has been a challenging year for businesses all around the world, with the pandemic being the key factor to this. Malaysian companies are experiencing the same effect, and in many ways too.
Star speakers include Editor-in-Chief of PeopleScience.com and co-author, Jeff Kreisler and Dan Ariely, of “Dollars And Sense: How We Misthink Money and How To Spend Smarter”.
Participants will also have the opportunity to gain insights on digital currency by tuning in to Daniel Gorfine’s session. Gorfine is the founder of Gattaca Horizons LLC, a boutique fintech advisory firm. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center and is a co-founder of the Digital Dollar Project.
He previously served as the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s first chief innovation officer and director of LabCFTC.
The free virtual conference organised in partnership with LabCFTCand MDEC will also feature exhibitors and delegates not only from Malaysia, but also the region.
Participants will have access to virtual booths where they can visit, enjoy product demo, network and interact with delegates, potential clients, business partners and collaborators within the SCxSC community through a virtual environment.
The SC said it has always been facilitative of digital innovation that will better serve the needs of the economy and private sector’s growth. For the record, it said the total funds raised through equity crowdfunding (ECF) for the first six months this year increased by about 70% compared with the whole of last year.
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) financing platforms have to-date (up to June 2020) closed more than 2,700 successful campaigns. Since 2014, SCxSC’s aim is to enhance awareness of local, regional, and global fintech developments and trends.
It is an interactive platform for policymakers, innovators, investors and financial services providers to discuss and explore new ideas and evolving digital trends for the capital market.
