The Islamic Development Bank has announced a $500 million loan to the proposed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project, supported by the US rehabilitation policy for Afghanistan.

The project is expected to receive investments from the Saudi Fund for Development and the Japanese government in the coming months.

The pipeline will run from Turkmenistan’s Galkynysh fields to Fazilka in India and will be operational by 2018.

However, given the current geopolitical climate and the intricacies of the relationship between the partner countries, some forecast the pipeline won’t open until 2022.
